The Ins and Outs of Stainless Steel
If you’ve ever ridden in a car, train, or airplane, you’ve come across the wonders of stainless steel welding! Obviously, these vehicles are a huge part of what keeps our world functioning, so it’s no understatement when we say that this type of welding is incredibly lucrative and vitally important. And since there’s an ever-increasing availability of this material, it’s a good idea to perfect your stainless steel welding techniques and make it a part of your career! We’ll talk about this material in today’s blog and hopefully, convince you to give it a try.
VARIETY IN STAINLESS STEEL
Not all stainless steel is made of the same components! There are different varieties based on their compositions of iron and chromium. What does that mean? Essentially, it means that it’s important to know the varieties well because different compositions require different levels of heat and different machines to properly weld with them. The main varietals are Austenitic, a composition which adds nickel to the blend, and Ferric, a composition of chromium and iron metals. Of course, when you choose one of these, you’re not only going to need to know which welding machine to use but also what type of welding gas will be appropriate.
SPEAKING OF WELDING GAS…
Because the team at Sidney Lee Welding Supply knows our stuff, we’re able to mix up the precise blends of welding gasses you need for the material you select. For example, if you choose to utilize the Austenitic varietal, we’ll put together a welding gas composed of carbon dioxide and either oxygen or argon. However, were you to select the Ferritic variable, we’d put together a mixture of argon and CO2 gas for peak performance.
